Privacy Policy

This page explains what information Honestify collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language based on how the product actually works today.
Who runs Honestify
Honestify (honestify.me) is operated as an individual project. It is not a registered company. If you have questions about your data, contact us at the email shown at the bottom of this page.
What we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address, full name, and chosen username. We use a one-time passcode (OTP) to verify your email before you sign in.
When you use the dashboard, we store the profile topics you write (text about your background, experience, skills, and similar). That content helps your public profile assistant answer visitor questions.
When visitors chat with your assistant, we store their questions and the assistant's answers, along with a browser session identifier. We do not ask visitors to create an account.
Visitors may optionally rate assistant answers as helpful or not helpful. If an answer was not helpful, they may choose a short reason or leave a brief note. This feedback is anonymous and is shown to the profile owner in aggregate to improve their profile content.
When someone leaves feedback on your profile or a review, we store their message. Feedback is anonymous — we do not collect reviewer names or emails on those forms.
If you upload a resume PDF, we store the original file in private cloud storage for your account and assistant. We also generate and store a privacy-safe public version used for visitor downloads when you allow them. We keep the filename, upload date, and related generation metadata on your account.
If a visitor sends a contact request (for example, to ask for your email or phone), we collect their name, company, work email, optional LinkedIn URL, and a short reason. We store that request and send transactional emails so you can review, approve, or reject it.
You can set optional contact-share fields (email and phone) used only when you approve a contact request. If you do not set a share email, we use your account email.
If you sign up after visiting someone's profile, we may silently record which username referred you. This is used only for internal analytics and is not shown to you or the referrer.
How we use your data
We use your information to run the service: authenticate you, host your public profile and assistant, deliver anonymous feedback to you, process contact requests, send transactional emails (such as login codes and contact-request notifications), prevent abuse, and improve the product.
Profile owners can see aggregate counts of profile visits and assistant usage in their dashboard. These totals are anonymous and do not identify individual visitors.
Profile content and visitor questions may be sent to AI services to generate assistant replies, summaries, suggested visitor questions, and content moderation. We do not sell your personal data.
We use your resume and privacy settings to decide what contact details may appear in public answers or public resume downloads. Fields you keep private are withheld from those public surfaces.
Public information
Content you save as profile topics powers a public assistant at honestify.me/yourname. Anyone with the link can ask questions. Only upload information you are comfortable sharing publicly.
Email and phone from your resume are private by default. Address is always kept private. You can change email/phone visibility in Privacy settings. The assistant only shares contact values you configured for sharing when those fields are public; otherwise visitors may request contact.
If you allow resume download, visitors receive the privacy-safe public PDF — not your original upload. Your original resume stays private for your account and assistant.
Contact requests
When a visitor requests contact, we share their submitted details with the profile owner by email and in the dashboard so the owner can approve or reject the request.
If you approve a request, we email the requester the contact email and optional phone you configured for sharing on approve. Rejected or pending requests are not used to publish your private contact information publicly.
Visitors and technical data
We use IP addresses for rate limiting to prevent abuse of the assistant, contact-request, and download endpoints.
On the first question to a profile assistant, we may use Cloudflare Turnstile to help block automated abuse.
We use Google Analytics to understand how pages and features are used (for example, profile views, signups, and assistant usage). Analytics data is handled according to Google's policies.
When the site is hosted on Vercel, we use Vercel Speed Insights to collect anonymous performance metrics (such as page load time and responsiveness) so we can improve the experience. Data is handled according to Vercel's policies.
Cookies and local storage
When you sign in, we store a session token in your browser (local storage and a cookie) so you stay logged in.
The assistant chat may store a session identifier in your browser so conversation history can continue on return visits.
Signup referral information may be stored temporarily in session storage until you complete registration.
Third-party services
We rely on trusted providers to run Honestify, including Google (AI and Analytics), Vercel (hosting, performance monitoring, and file storage), Neon (database), Upstash (rate limiting), Cloudflare (security checks), and Resend (email). These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the service.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active and as needed to operate the service. Contact requests are kept so owners can review history and so we can operate the feature. You can request account deletion or data removal by emailing us. We will handle requests manually.
Your choices
You can edit or delete profile topics from your dashboard. You can edit or regenerate suggested visitor questions shown on your assistant chat. You can remove an uploaded resume at any time.
In Privacy settings you can control whether email and phone are private or public, whether a public resume download is available, and which email/phone to share (on approve, and in the assistant when public). Address is always private. You can approve or reject contact requests from your dashboard.
You can stop using Honestify at any time. Contact us if you want your account and associated data deleted.
Children
Honestify is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest version. Continued use of Honestify after changes means you accept the updated policy.
Transparency note
This policy is written in plain language to explain how Honestify works today. It is not formal legal advice. If you need legal certainty for your situation, consult a qualified professional.
